The Eagles started off their season on Sunday with a familiar opponent in the last few years, the Falcons. The reformed Eagles looked to prove a lot of people wrong in the opening game, which they did in surprising fashion, winning 32-6. Both sides of the ball were clicking on all cylinders against a formidable Atlanta team. Jalen Hurts had an outstanding performance looking like a seasoned veteran in just his second year. Hurts wasn't making mistakes, and was making the right decisions to help take over the game. The offense was flowing with ease while incorporating a steady dose of rushing, finishing with 173 yards. Sanders and Gainwell looked good in the debut, and look to be the two main backs that will be getting the carries. Looking forward into the season, the rushing between the two will have to be consistent, and even better than this game in some occasions. Hurts will also continue to show his ability to run and scramble out of the pocket, which is where his 62 yards came from. The receivers were also helping Hurts out by getting open and catching the ball, including a 71 yard NFL debut for DeVonta Smith. The ball was getting spread around and looked like a dangerous offense in the league.
Notable Statlines:
Jalen Hurts - 27/35, 264 Yards, 3 TD
Miles Sanders - 15 Carries, 74 Yards
DeVonta Smith - 6 Rec, 71 Yards, 1 TD
On the defensive side of the ball, the pressure on Matt Ryan was outstanding, especially in the second half. The secondary played a very good game as well, holding star receiver Calvin Ridley to only 51 yards. A big standout was Darius Slay at corner with great coverage. Although there were no turnovers, the defense only allowed 6 points. The defense looked like a dominant force as well, which didn't allow the Atlanta offense to do anything. The defense will have to continue to be a strong-point for this football team if they want to be successful.
Notable Statlines:
Avonte Maddox - 9 Tot, 1 PD
Javon Hargrave - 6 Tot, 2 Sacks
