As we are within reach of the upcoming season, let's look at how teams are shaping up to pan out in the standings.

Eastern Conference

  1. Celtics (62-20)

  2. Knicks (57- 25)

  3. 76ers (53-29)

  4. Pacers (50-32)

  5. Bucks (49-33)

  6. Magic (48-34)

  7. Heat (47-35)

  8. Cavaliers (46-36)

  9. Raptors (39-43)

  10. Hawks (38-44)

  11. Bulls (34-48)

  12. Hornets (30-52)

  13. Nets (28-54)

  14. Wizards (25-57)

  15. Pistons (20-62)

We can expect this season to be played out similarly to last season in the East. The top teams get stronger and the bottom teams stay at the bottom. The Celtics are coming off a Finals victory with everyone returning, therefore should have no problem topping the conference again. The Knicks look to have the best shot next to them with the additions they made in the offseason. Next should be the 76ers after making important additions and hoping to stay healthy. After that should be a combination of the Bucks, Magic, and Pacers. These are teams that had a good year last season and should be able to replicate. The Heat and Cavs could certainly be better than the position they are in, just depends on injuries and how they can perform. Expect the Raptors to actually take a step forward this season with all of the young talent on the roster, then followed by the Hawks who are just there again. The bottom five teams should be fairly unanimous as they continue to either rebuild, or work their way into a rebuild.

Western Conference

  1. Thunder (64-18)

  2. Timberwolves (60-22)

  3. Nuggets (58-24)

  4. Mavericks (55-27)

  5. Kings (51-31)

  6. Pelicans (49-33)

  7. Grizzlies (47-35)

  8. Rockets (47-35)

  9. Suns (45-37)

  10. Lakers (45-37)

  11. Warriors (43-39)

  12. Jazz (40-42)

  13. Spurs (35-47)

  14. Clippers (30-52)

  15. Trail Blazers (24-58)

Similarly to the East, the West should see similar teams at the top once again. With the top dogs improving, this conference will get even tougher this season. There is no doubt the Thunder should be competing for the top spot with the roster they've built. Expect the Timberwolves to bounce off the great playoff run with another great defensive season. The Nuggets and Mavs should also be competing at the top, obviously with the star power they possess. After those four could be a toss up really, but the Kings and Pelicans should be right around there with how their rosters are looking. WIth Ja Morant returning for Memphis, this team should be much improved gaining health from other players as well. Ime Udoka surprised with the Rockets last season, and expect them to do the same again this season getting better. Rounding out the playoffs is the Suns and Lakers, two teams that should be better on paper, but just can't fully figure it out. The Warriors could very well find themselves sneaking in the playoffs, but could also struggle with a shaky roster. The Jazz and Spurs should honestly be better than they were last season, but who knows. We could see the downfall of the Clippers this season losing more players, and having Leonard and Harden to rely on too much with health. Portland is still rebuilding, could show flashes.
