Below will be predictions for each individual award for the upcoming season in the NBA.
MVP:
Giannis Antetokounmpo (PF - Bucks)
2022-23 Stats - 31.1 Pts, 5.7 Ast, 11.8 Reb, 0.8 Stl, 0.8 Blk
Runner-Ups - Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum
Coming off of another fantastic season for Giannis, I expect him to do the same once again. With the acquisition of Damian Lillard, I feel as if the star will be at the top of his game with his new star running the point. His game can easily be elevated with the new look offense and new look point guard, considering the caliber that Lillard is. The Bucks as a team should be finishing top three in the conference easily and once again be looking to compete for a championship.
DPOY:
Bam Adebayo (C - Heat)
2022-23 Stats - 1.2 Stl, 0.8 Blk, *Dbpm 0.8, *Dws 3.8
Runner-Ups - Anthony Davis, Jaren Jackson Jr., Herb Jones, Evan Mobley
It may come as a surprise to see Adebayo winning this award, but to many people who have watched him play, would understand the expansion of his game. The stats may not completely be seen as insane, however his ability and impact on the Heat defense shows immensely. His ability to guard multiple positions at his size playing predominately center minutes, should not be overlooked, especially his perimeter defense. With that being said, I believe Adebayo will put people on notice and show why he is one of the most underrated defenders in the league after a close race this season for the award.
MIP:
Obi Toppin (PF - Pacers)
2022-23 Stats - 7.4 Pts, 1.0 Ast, 2.8 Reb, 45% FG, 34% 3P
Runner-Ups - Devin Vassell, Cade Cunningham, Ben Simmons, Alperen Sengun
With a fresh start in Indiana, Toppin is primed to have a breakout year in a new system. He is projected to start for the team and should be expected to get more minutes than he is used to. While he has some assets to work on such as shooting and defense, he still has more to show offensively. He did show flashes when given expanded minutes in a starting role for New York, which is why many believe him to be able to thrive in Indiana as a starter this season.
6MOTY:
Immanuel Quickley (PG - Knicks)
2022-23 Stats - 14.9 Pts, 3.4 Ast, 4.2 Reb, 1 Stl
Runner-Ups - Cam Thomas, Bobby Portis, Malik Monk, Derrick White
Quickley, who finished second in this award last season, continues to improve on both sides of the ball and should see a big role off the bench for the Knicks. Though he struggled in the postseason, I expect him to be even better this season offensively as he commands the second unit while also expanding his game as a fantastic perimeter defender. Quickley is going to show the kind of player he is in this league during this season.
ROTY:
Scoot Henderson (PG - Trail Blazers)
2022-23 G-League Ignite
Runner-Ups - Dereck Lively II, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Victor Wembanyama, Ausar Thompson
Henderson of course being one of the top prospects at the guard position in awhile, should have an outstanding rookie season. This should come a bit easier with the departure of Damian Lillard in Portland, which then gives Henderson the keys. His athleticism and offensive ability is off the charts, and with the help of his stint in the G-League Ignite last season, he should be primed to play with the big boys.
COTY:
Rick Carlisle (Head Coach - Pacers)
2022-23 Record - 35-47
Runner-Ups - Jason Kidd, Frank Vogel, Adrian Griffin, Ime Udoka
The Pacers are an interesting team going into the new season. Carlisle has had many years of experience, and has done a great job of keeping the Pacers afloat the last couple of years. With everyone thinking the team was going into a rebuild, Carlisle helped to keep that rumor down. Of course this comes with the help of additions such as Tyrese Haliburton, and now this year: Bruce Brown, Obi Toppin, Jarace Walker amongst others. This young team could make a bigger jump this season with an improved roster and a reliable coach at the helm.
