The Eagles had a tough task on Sunday, as they faced former Super Bowl winning coach Doug Pederson. The Jaguars coming into the week at 2-1 and already being a surprise team to start the season. Also coming off a blowout win against the Chargers, Philadelphia knew this wasn't the Jags of last year. The momentum continued for Jacksonville as they got off to a hot 14-0 start in the 1st quarter. It didn't last long though with the Eagles' offense stringing together scoring drives. In a pouring rain game, it was a struggle for the second year quarterback Trevor Lawerence, but not for the Birds as they ultimately came away with a 29-21 victory.

Major Takeaways:

1. Miles Sanders is like that

  • The 4th year running back has shown flashes and potential in his first few years. However, there has still been questions about it productivity. So far this season he has shown why he is the running back for the foreseeable future. With the pouring rain, the Eagles decided to run the ball more than usual with 50 totals carries on the team. Sanders was 27 of those carries and consistently getting yards with an average of five yards per carry. He also tallied over 100 yards and two touchdowns. Sanders showed what he can produce in the running game, and it's something the Birds can build on.

2. O-line is a dominant force

  • Also a driving force in the running game is the potent offensive line. Noted as possibly the best line in football, the helped to over 200 yards rushing, and 400 yards of total offense once again. Their dominance was on full display on Sunday play after play giving life to the run game. The only downside of the game was that it produced two injuries on the line with Jordan Mailata and Isaac Seumalo. Luckily, Jack Driscoll and Sua Opeta stepped in big time with almost no difference to line. Keeping the o-line healthy and durable will be a big factor to the season.

3. Haason Reddick was a huge pickup

  • The outside linebacker has proven to be a key addition to the team this season. With nearly four sacks and three forced fumbles on the season, he has been giving offenses headaches. On Sunday he was an absolute force on Jacksonville and Lawrence, with two strip sacks. Seemed like every time Lawrence dropped back, Reddick was there swatting at his arm.

4. Defense looks nearly unstoppable

  • Not only was Reddick dominating, the whole defense showed why they are one of the best in football. Also suffering major losses with Avonte Maddox and Darius Slay in the secondary, the Eagles were able to overcome it all. Forcing five turnovers in the game, the defense set the tone to coming back in the end. Trevor Lawrence was in a nightmare for the majority of the game as he was sacked four times, and fumbled four times. The Birds held Jacksonville to just 219 yards of offense, and only allowing 14 points in the game. The defense continues to prove their dominance in the league thus far.

5. Only remaining undefeated team

  • The Eagles now remain the only undefeated team in the league at 4-0. Many also have the Eagles ranked either one, two, or three in the power rankings. So now we can wonder how long this will last? With few flaws in their games and the roster as a whole, it's interesting how far this team can go after a surprising start. The Birds will have to continue their consistency on both sides of the ball and stay healthy as a whole.

Notable Stats:

Miles Sanders (RB) - 27 Att, 134 Yds, 2 TD

Jalen Hurts (QB) - 16 Att, 38 Yds, 1 TD

AJ Brown (WR) - 5 Rec, 95 Yds

TJ Edwards (LB) - 6 TOT, 1 Sack

Haason Reddick (OLB) - 4 TOT, 2 Sacks, 2 FF, 2 FR

The Birds now look to take on a flashy Arizona Cardinals (2-2) team on Sunday, and extend their undefeated streak.
