Houston came into the day firing on all cylinders against BYU, despite being without J’Wan Roberts. Showing their defensive prowess and getting out to a 15-0 run. The guard play was a big contribution for Houston, while Richie Saunders tried his best to garner offense for BYU. At the half, Houston led by 21 in a dominating fashion. The defensive pressure held to BYU offense to 20 points with the help of five steals and five blocks. Starting the second half, BYU tried a different approach, which came in the paint with Keba Keita. Cryer and Sharp on the other hand had other ideas of any sort of comeback. Sharp was feeling it from deep and ended the game with 26. Mylik Wilson stepped up tremendously for the Cougars, finishing with 13 rebounds and a +/- of 22. The red hot Cougars go into the Championship game off a dominating victory.
In the second game of the night, Arizona got out to a dominating fashion as well, with a 9-0 run against Texas Tech. Caleb Love was at the brunt of this, with 13 points to start the game. Tech began to get threes of their own to climb back. Being without two starters of Darrion Williams and Chance McMillian, certainly hurt the Red Raiders in the first half offensively. The Wildcats on the other hand were shooting efficiently in the first to give them a lead with the help of Love. He continued to spark the Arizona offense to start the second half. Overton and Anderson for the Red Raiders did begin to heat up the offense to get back into the game. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough without their guys, while the Wildcats were too efficient on the offensive end. Arizona heads to their first Championship in their first year in the conference.
Team of the Day: Houston
